Scholarships earned by Missouri Veterans deserve to go to Missouri Veterans, not the Federal Government
How it works
The Missouri Veteran Scholarship Freedom Act changes the way that scholarships are distributed by our state universities to Missouri's Veterans. Scholarships will no longer be directly credited to their university tuition accounts. Instead Veterans will be given the freedom to use those scholarships towards other education expenses, allowing their GI Bill to cover the full value of their tuition.
how it happened
- In 2011 the Veterans Administration created the "last payer" rule
- The VA now only pays the net cost of tuition after all scholarships and discounts are applied to student accounts.
- This lowers the value of the GI bill once a Veteran earns a scholarship from a state University
